Why choose Tennessee: A great place to work
Travel nurses are often impressed by the variety of travel nursing assignments that are available in Tennessee. There’s bound to be a job that suits you, too. But before you make a choice, consider these factors:
Job location. Whether you are “city folk,” or prefer the beauty of wide open spaces, your preference can easily be accommodated in a state like Tennessee. You can choose from travel RN jobs in a variety of settings, ranging from urban medical centers in big cities to community facilities in suburbs and smaller towns. Tennessee is home to some leading medical centers, which can add prestige to your resume when you log some experience working there.
Types of positions. Travel nursing jobs in Tennessee will cover nearly the entire spectrum of specialties, whether you work in telemetry, emergency, intensive care, med-surg, pediatrics, surgery, rehabilitation, or another area. Positions are also available in a variety of inpatient and outpatient facilities.
Pay and benefits. One of the best benefits of travel nursing work is the excellent pay. Travel nurses tend to earn a higher salary on average than permanent ones. Pay rates will vary, based on the size of the facility and the type of position, but many contracts will also allow for bonuses. You will also be eligible for terrific benefits, including free medical and dental insurance, free housing, and free continuing education opportunities.
Another advantage of taking a travel nursing assignment in Tennessee is that the state is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. More than 30 other states currently participate in the compact, which is an arrangement that honors an active license held by a resident in another member state.
So if your principal state of residence is part of the compact, and your nursing license is in good standing, you don’t have to apply for a new state license to work in Tennessee. If you don’t hold a multistate nursing license, though, our credentialing specialists can help you navigate the process of getting your Tennessee nursing license.
Green and lush: A wonderful place to play
Many Tennessee residents will urge you to visit their beautiful green state for the plethora of opportunities to spend time in the great outdoors.
Consider Exhibit No. 1: the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The most visited national park in the country, the beautiful Smokies in East Tennessee will win you over before you even know what happened. You can take a hike through the forests and catch glimpses of beautiful mountain vistas. Bring your camera and snap photos of the lush rhododendrons in bloom in the summer or marvel at the endless trees dripping in golden leaves in the autumn.
Or head to the opposite end of the state so you can experience all that Memphis has to offer. Spend your evenings on Beale Street or any of the numerous trendy restaurants that have popped up downtown. Memphis is famous for its barbecue, so be sure to try some. Another unique way to spend some free time: walk or bike the Big River Crossing, which bills itself as the longest public pedestrian/bike bridge across the mighty Mississippi River.
In between, you have Middle Tennessee, which is home to Music City, USA, also known as Nashville. Of course, you can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame or the famed Ryman Auditorium. You might also want to check out the Parthenon, a replica of an ancient Greek temple that serves as an art museum in a large urban park in the heart of Nashville. A new fun way to take in the city is to take an Instagram-worthy mural tour. Snap pictures of yourself in front of the murals painted on the walls of buildings in neighborhoods all over the city. (Start with the iconic “I believe in Nashville” mural.)
