UNIT Details:
Around 130-140 Births per month
4 Bed Medical Screening/triage, 2 Antepartum beds, 1 Labor Observation, 8 LDR's, 2 OR Rooms, 3 Bed Recovery, 18 Postpartum Beds, Average Daily Census: 4 - 7, Average Births per day: 25, Age Group of Patients; Infants, Adolescants, Adults, Ratios: L&D- 1 or 2 patients, FCC - 3-4 Couplets, Patient Population: Maternity and Gyn, RN's will float regularly between LD and FCC, 3 days of orientation: 2 on LD and 1 in PP/FCC, RN MUST have computer charting skills, high & low risk OB skills, triage skills, This is a high risk OB unit. RN must be comfortable with educating patients on breastfeeding, facility is striving to be "baby friendly" certified. Unit has lactation nurses 7 days a week and superusers for "baby friendly." Team Patient Care Delivery. Medications in LD unit: Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin drips for induction and augmentation, Special Procedures in Unit: Versions, Cesearean Section, Bilateral Tubal Ligation, Emergency Hysterectomy. Procedures done in unit that can cause ethical issues: Abortions - genetic terminations, Blood transfusions, Resuscitation of less than viable infants or less than 22 weeks gestation.
