Tennessee Nursing License

If you love music, Tennessee could be the ideal location for your next travel nursing assignment. From the rock n’ roll legends of Memphis to the country music haven that is Nashville (home to the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and a world-famous stretch of dance halls), there is no shortage of music history to take in.

You can spend your days off immersing yourself in music’s rich history, or exploring the many other amenities and sights that the great state of Tennessee has to offer. “The Volunteer State” also boasts a great Southern location with easy access to a variety of great locations.

Travel nurses will find there are plenty of job opportunities throughout the state including work in Knoxville, Dickson, Clarksville, Franklin, Chattanooga, and of course, Nashville and Memphis.

How to Get Your Nursing License in Tennessee

Obtaining a Tennessee nursing license begins with a visit to the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Here, you will find everything you need to know about getting licensed as an RN.

Nurses who already hold an active license in another state can apply by endorsement. New nurses who have graduated from nursing school and are applying for their first license will need to apply by exam. You should allow approximately six weeks for license processing.

Applicants for either type of license will need the following:

  • Verification of state residency
  • Criminal background check
  • Declaration/verification of citizenship
  • Passport-type photo
  • Social security number
  • Copy of nursing diploma or transcript from initial nursing education (endorsement only)

Last year, the Board eliminated the fee for applying by exam, something that few other states have done for their new applicants. The other fees are outlined below. Board of Nursing Fee Schedule – Fees are payable to the State of Tennessee.

Registered Nurse Application (RN)

  • Exam & Exam Retake Fee eliminated as of 08/05/2019
  • Endorsement $115.00
  • Reinstatement $200.00
  • Renewal $100.00
