Obtaining a Tennessee nursing license begins with a visit to the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Here, you will find everything you need to know about getting licensed as a RN.
Nurses who already hold an active license in another state can apply by endorsement. New nurses who have graduated from nursing school and are applying for their first license will need to apply by exam. You should allow approximately six weeks for license processing.

Last year, the Board eliminated the fee for applying by exam, something that few other states have done for their new applicants. The other fees are outlined below.
Board of Nursing Fee Schedule – Fees are payable to the State of Tennessee.
A Tennessee nursing license can be renewed up to 60 days prior to the expiration date.

Tennessee is a member of the nursing licensure compact (NLC) and Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Tennessee multistate licensees are eligible to practice in all eNLC states. If you hold an active compact multistate license you can start your travel nursing journey today!
