Essential Qualifications

Typically, hospitals require nurses to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school. However, there are many healthcare facilities that only call for nurses to have an Associates' Degree in Nursing (ADN) as their highest degree requirement.

Ideal Experience

Healthcare systems prefer nurses to have at least one year of experience in a clinical setting under their belt to be considered for a position. Although some specialties require additional certifications and experience in the hospital setting. For example, numerous hospitals require ER nurses to have at least two years of experience in the ER to be considered for a position.
