Job Description & Requirements
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit - PACU Nurse - Travel - (PACU RN)
The DSU nurse provides direct care to patients across the lifespan who are recovering from various levels of consciousness as a result of local, regional or general sedation. Assignments include, but are not limited to, PAT Visit, Pre-Op & Post-Op of interventional radiology, infusions, GI procedures, bronchoscopy, cardiovascular procedures, pain clinic, and surgical procedures; as well as, functioning in a circulator and/or assist role during minor, GI, and bronchoscopy procedures. Due to the possibility of rapid changes in a patient's physiological condition, DSU RNs are required to administer diligent care via monitoring, intervention, and frequent routine reassessment. In response to patient needs the nurse may provide mild sedation and administer medications per protocols, ACLS/PALS/PEARS guidelines and physician orders. DSU nurses must demonstrate an ability to cope with extreme emergency situations while displaying calm, and demonstrate recognition of the value and dignity of the individual without regard to the nature of illness or the circumstances. They address the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the procedural environment. The nurse must demonstrate strong communication skills with a multidisciplinary team approach; it is imperative to maintain effective communication with providers and the anesthesia team about patient conditions and receiving direction for patient management. DSU nurses function as a patient advocate and act as a liaison between patient, family, and procedural providers to ensure a smooth transition throughout their entire operative experience.
Post Anesthesia, Critical Care, or Emergency experience preferred.
