he East Carolina Heart Institute is the first in North Carolina devoted exclusively to education, research, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The institute is associated with Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University. The primary facilities that make up the Heart Institute are located on the campuses of Vidant Medical Center and ECU’s Brody School of Medicine. The Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit is a 24-bed, decentralized nursing pod design, unit inside our state-of-the-art East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center. Patients on this unit primarily consist of post-operative cardiac, thoracic and vascular patients. Nurses on this unit will encounter high acuity surgical patients with multi-system issues.
Additional 1-2 years of surgical experience, patients who have chest tubes, epidurals, temporary pacing wires, multiple IV and Cardiothoracic/vascular surgery experience preferred
