++**Critical Care**++ The Acute Care Unit is located on the second floor of Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, in Jersey Shore, PA. It is comprised 4 private rooms and a central nursing station. It is directly connect to the Acute Care unit Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital's Critical Care Unit is a medical/surgical, coronary unit. It consists of four coronary care/intensive care rooms equipped for various types of procedures including cardiac monitoring. Situated outside of the unit, but in close proximity, is the family lounge and the unit director's office - each accessible to the unit by telephone. The Critical Care Unit is a specialty care area designed to render services to the critically ill medical or surgical patients of all ages with the exception of neonates. This unit is for the patient requiring continuous, comprehensive, and detailed intensive care including mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitoring, and invasive hemodynamic monitoring because of the critical nature of the patient's illness. A multi-disciplinary approach is utilized through consultation of dietary, pharmacy, social service, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy when appropriate to meet patient needs. Rehabilitative and preventive services are also provided through patient education and discharge planning. Admitting privileges to the unit are open to the hospitalist with consultation available from the departments of surgery and anesthesia. Extensive consultation services are provided from the neighboring medical centers. Physicians' privileges are clarified in each physician's privilege record. Care of the critically ill patient is provided by the physicians and an RN staff with LPNs and/or nurse aides. Professional Registered Nurse 1. Management of patient care in the Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit according to the nursing process to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Actively participates in the promotion of quality patient care. 2. Leadership abilities are demonstrated in functioning as a professional role model with consumer relations and communications skills, problem solving and decision making and assistance in orienting and training personnel. 3. Collaborates with other healthcare providers to coordinate the patients plan of care. 4. Include patient in care by participating in discharge planning, update patient communication board, handout daily newsletter, perform hourly rounding to asses patients needs, and include patient and family in teaching. 5. Focus on Teamwork and a multi-disciplinary team approach, while showing compassion and empathy to the community we serve. There is only 1 RN scheduled at a time in the Critical Care Unit. If the CCU has more than 2 critical patients and second nurse is provided. Overflow medsurg/telemetry patients are placed in CCU. Assessment are to performed on patients every 4 hours or with condition change. Certification Requirement: BLS upon hire, ACLS and PALS within 6 months of start date.
