How to Apply for an Idaho Nursing License

Find New Freedom in Wide Open Spaces

The first stop on your journey to get your proper license should be the Idaho Board of Nursing to learn how to apply, renew, or verify your Idaho nursing license.

  • Step 1: Click on the link to the Idaho Nurse portal and create an account.
  • Step 2: Read the instructions, complete the application, and submit your application!

Types of Idaho Nurse License Applications:

  • License by examination (new applicants)
  • License by endorsement/equivalent (requires verification of existing state license, 2 years of experience, and education/NCLEX requirements)

How to Renew Your Idaho Nursing License

A Simple Online Process

A permanent Idaho nurse license is usually issued in about 8 weeks and a temporary license is issued in approximately 4 weeks. There is a $110 application fee for a license.

Renewing your license can also be done online. Nursing licenses in Idaho are renewed on a biennial basis, and professional nurses (RN) are on odd-numbered years.

Licenses expire on August 31st of the applicable year, and the fee for renewing prior to the expiration date is $90.00 and must be paid in full. If you renew after August 31st, you will be fined a $35.00 late fee.

Idaho is a Nursing Compact State

New Freedom to Travel is Waiting

Idaho has been part of The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) since 2001! The NLC allows RNs who reside in and hold a multi-state license in one Compact state, the ability and privilege to practice nursing in other NLC states, without holding additional licenses in those states. It's a great perk and more than enough reason to apply for your Idaho nursing license today.
